Nitrogen Generator South Yorkshire
Start with the gas specification, not the generator catalogue. Search Air, Atlas Copco Premier Distributor, designs and installs on-site nitrogen generation systems for industrial sites across South Yorkshire. We have been an Atlas Copco Premier Distributor since 2002.
Our work covers the generator, compressed-air assessment, air treatment, installation and ongoing maintenance. The result is a system matched to your required purity, pressure, flow and operating pattern.
Specify the Nitrogen Demand First
Nitrogen generation should be sized against measured process demand. An oversized generator adds unnecessary capital and running costs. An undersized system may struggle during peak production or leave too little reserve capacity.
Before recommending equipment, we establish:
- Required nitrogen flow and outlet pressure
- Purity or residual-oxygen limit at the point of use
- Normal demand, peak demand and operating hours
- Available compressed-air capacity and air quality
- Space, ventilation and connection requirements
- Planned production changes that could affect future demand
Both main on-site generation technologies require a suitable supply of clean, dry compressed air. We assess the compressor and air treatment alongside the generator rather than treating them as separate systems. You can review the wider range of nitrogen and oxygen generators before discussing your specification with us.
Which Generator Technology Fits the Process?
The required gas quality determines the technology. Equipment selection should follow the measured process requirement, not a general preference for one generator type.
PSA Nitrogen Generation
Pressure swing adsorption, or PSA, uses alternating vessels filled with carbon molecular sieve. It is generally considered when the process needs higher nitrogen purity or a tighter residual-oxygen limit.
PSA systems also introduce specific compressed-air demand and maintenance requirements. We account for these when assessing the compressor, dryer, filtration and receiver capacity.
Membrane Nitrogen Generation
Membrane generators separate gases through hollow fibres by differential permeation. They are generally considered for moderate-purity duties where the required flow, pressure and operating profile suit the technology.
Atlas Copco’s explanation of nitrogen generation describes both operating principles. The final recommendation can still change once actual demand and air quality have been measured. A membrane unit that looks suitable from a stated average flow may not remain the right choice when peak demand is included.
From Site Assessment to Commissioning
We begin with a compressed-air and nitrogen-demand assessment at your South Yorkshire site. This establishes whether the existing compressor can support generation without affecting other production equipment. It also identifies any air-treatment or distribution changes required before installation.
We then specify the generator and supporting equipment, agree the installation scope and provide clear, agreed pricing. Work outside the agreed plan is identified and quoted separately.
Installation can include air treatment, receivers, pipework connections, controls and commissioning. We verify the system against the agreed operating requirement and explain the maintenance schedule to the people responsible for it.
Our air compressor services in South Yorkshire can also support the compressed-air plant supplying the generator. Coverage extends across South Yorkshire and surrounding industrial areas within our Yorkshire and East Midlands service region, supported by our Sheffield and Leeds depots.
Is On-Site Generation the Right Fit?
South Yorkshire’s Growth Plan identifies advanced manufacturing and materials among the region’s distinctive capabilities. On-site generation can suit industrial processes that use nitrogen regularly and have a defined quality requirement.
It is not automatically the right answer for every site. Low or irregular demand, limited compressor capacity or an uncertain purity specification can change the commercial case. Our assessment is intended to establish that fit before equipment is selected. Our guide to the benefits of on-site nitrogen generation provides further background.
Plan for Safety and Maintenance
Nitrogen is colourless and odourless. The Health and Safety Executive warns that it can displace oxygen and create an asphyxiation hazard.
Ventilation, monitoring and other controls must follow the site risk assessment and consider where nitrogen could be released or accumulate. We factor the proposed installation area and distribution route into the site assessment.
Once commissioned, the generator, filtration and compressed-air supply need planned servicing. We can provide ongoing service and maintenance based on the installed equipment and operating duty.
Request a South Yorkshire Site Assessment
Contact our engineering team with your required flow, pressure, purity or residual-oxygen limit, operating hours and any available compressed-air data. We will review the application, identify what needs measuring on site and define the next step for a nitrogen generator installation in South Yorkshire.
