Nitrogen Generator Harrogate
Search Air, Atlas Copco Premier Distributor, specifies, installs and maintains on-site nitrogen generation systems for industrial sites in Harrogate and the surrounding area. We assess the process first, then match the generator, compressed-air supply and air treatment to the measured demand.
The objective is a stable nitrogen supply at the required purity, pressure and flow. It is not simply to install the largest available generator. A correctly specified system can reduce dependence on delivered cylinders or bulk nitrogen while giving your site greater control over production.
We have been an Atlas Copco Premier Distributor since 2002. Our engineers support the complete installation, including the compressor, air treatment, generator, storage and distribution.
Is On-Site Generation Right for Your Site?
On-site generation is worth assessing when nitrogen is used regularly and delivery arrangements are adding cost, handling or supply uncertainty. Harrogate’s wider economy includes food products, life sciences and manufacturing engineering, although the application itself determines whether nitrogen generation is suitable.
We start with your actual consumption. That includes normal flow, peak demand, operating hours, required pressure and the acceptable residual-oxygen level. We also consider planned production changes because a system sized only for today’s base load can become restrictive later.
Sites comparing delivery against generation can review the wider benefits of on-site nitrogen generation. On-site generation will not suit every operation. Irregular, low-volume demand may still favour delivered gas, and that decision depends on measured usage rather than industry alone.
PSA or Membrane Nitrogen Generation?
Both technologies use clean, dry compressed air as their feed supply. The correct selection depends on the process requirement.
| Technology | Typical Selection Basis |
|---|---|
| Pressure swing adsorption | Considered when the process requires higher purity or tighter control of residual oxygen |
| Membrane generation | Considered for moderate-purity duties where a compact, continuous system fits the demand |
Atlas Copco explains that pressure swing adsorption uses alternating vessels containing carbon molecular sieve. Membrane systems separate gases through hollow fibres by differential permeation.
We do not select between them from the application name alone. Purity, flow and pressure must be measured or confirmed against the process specification. Raising purity beyond what the process needs can change generator capacity and compressed-air demand, so the useful target is the correct specification, not the highest available figure.
Our wider range of nitrogen and oxygen generators provides a starting point, but final selection follows the site assessment.
What Our Harrogate Service Includes
We assess the complete gas-generation system rather than treating the generator as an isolated machine. Our work can include:
- Nitrogen demand and purity assessment
- Compressed-air capacity and pressure review
- Air treatment and feed-air quality specification
- PSA or membrane generator selection
- Receiver, controls and distribution planning
- Installation and commissioning
- Planned service and maintenance
Existing compressor performance matters. An undersized compressor, excessive pressure drop or ineffective dryer can prevent the generator from meeting its design duty even when the nitrogen unit itself is correctly selected. Where the wider compressed-air system needs attention, our air compressor services in Harrogate provide a joined-up route from assessment to ongoing maintenance.
How We Deliver the Installation
The first step is a site survey and demand review. We then define the duty point, check the available compressed-air supply and identify any air-treatment or distribution work needed.
Our proposal sets out the selected technology, system scope and operating assumptions. You receive clear, agreed pricing, with any work outside the agreed plan identified and quoted separately.
Installation is planned around the operating site. After commissioning, we confirm system settings and explain the maintenance requirements to the people responsible for production and facilities.
Nitrogen Safety on Industrial Sites
Nitrogen is colourless and odourless. The Health and Safety Executive warns that it can displace oxygen and create an asphyxiation hazard.
Ventilation, monitoring and other controls must follow the site risk assessment and reflect where nitrogen could escape or accumulate. Room layout, discharge points and access arrangements therefore form part of the installation discussion, not an afterthought.
