Nitrogen Generator Chesterfield
Your nitrogen requirement is a set of operating conditions: flow, pressure, purity, residual oxygen and operating hours. Search Air, Atlas Copco Premier Distributor, designs and installs on-site nitrogen generation for industrial sites in Chesterfield and the surrounding area.
We assess the process, compressed-air supply and air treatment before specifying the equipment.
What We Include in a Chesterfield Nitrogen Generator Project
Our nitrogen and oxygen generators service covers the complete system rather than the generator alone. The work can include:
- Process demand and purity assessment
- PSA or membrane generator selection
- Compressed-air and air-treatment checks
- Installation and commissioning
- Planned service and maintenance
Derbyshire has an established manufacturing base spanning aerospace, transport, advanced materials, food production and engineering, according to the county’s manufacturing profile. That variety does not determine which generator a Chesterfield site needs. We specify against measured process requirements, not an assumption based on the sector.
PSA or Membrane Depends on the Process
Pressure swing adsorption, or PSA, passes clean, dry compressed air through alternating vessels containing carbon molecular sieve. It is generally considered where the process requires higher nitrogen purity or a tighter residual-oxygen limit.
Membrane generation separates gases through hollow fibres. It is generally considered for moderate-purity duties where its operating characteristics suit the required flow, pressure and duty cycle. The Atlas Copco nitrogen generation overview explains both technologies and the need for suitable intake air.
Both options depend on clean, dry compressed air. A generator connected to an unsuitable compressor, dryer or filtration arrangement will not deliver the intended result consistently. We assess the complete air path before recommending either technology.
From Assessment to Commissioning
We start with the gas requirement, then work backwards through the system. A typical project follows four stages:
- We record minimum and peak nitrogen flow, delivery pressure, purity or residual-oxygen limit, operating hours and expected future demand.
- We assess the compressor, dryer, filters, pipework, ventilation and available installation space.
- We specify the generator and supporting equipment, then provide clear, agreed pricing. Work outside the agreed plan is identified and quoted separately.
- We install and commission the system against the agreed operating conditions.
The benefits of on-site nitrogen generation depend on that specification being correct. Oversizing adds unnecessary capacity. Undersizing leaves the process short of gas when demand reaches its peak.
We have been an Atlas Copco Premier Distributor since 2002 and were named Atlas Copco Distributor of the Year in 2022. Our engineers can support the compressed-air supply, air treatment, generator installation and ongoing maintenance as one connected system.
Nitrogen Safety Cannot Be Designed by Habit
HSE guidance on asphyxiation hazards warns that nitrogen can displace oxygen and create an asphyxiation hazard.
Ventilation, oxygen monitoring and other controls must follow the site risk assessment and the ways nitrogen could be released or accumulate. Our assessment considers the proposed generator location, discharge arrangements and surrounding work areas.
The generator also relies on its compressed-air supply. Our air compressor services in Chesterfield cover the equipment feeding the nitrogen system, including air treatment, servicing and maintenance.
When On-Site Generation Is the Wrong Fit
On-site generation is worth assessing when nitrogen demand is regular enough to justify dedicated equipment and the site can provide suitable compressed air, treatment and installation space.
It is not automatically the right answer. Delivered gas may remain appropriate where usage is infrequent, demand is uncertain or the required operating conditions cannot be supported by the existing site infrastructure. The assessment has to settle that question before equipment is ordered.
Request a Chesterfield Nitrogen Assessment
Send us your required nitrogen flow, pressure, purity or residual-oxygen limit, operating hours and details of your current compressed-air system. Search Air will assess the application, recommend the appropriate system and provide clear, agreed pricing for installation at your Chesterfield site.
