Nitrogen Generator Wakefield
When your process depends on a reliable nitrogen supply, cylinder changes, delivery schedules and storage can become operating constraints. Search Air, Atlas Copco Premier Distributor, specifies, installs and maintains on-site nitrogen generation systems for industrial sites in Wakefield and the surrounding area.
We have been an Atlas Copco Premier Distributor since 2002. Our engineers assess the complete system, from compressed-air supply and treatment to nitrogen purity, pressure and peak flow.
Specify the Nitrogen Your Process Needs
A generator is only useful if it produces the right gas at the point of use. We start with the application, then establish normal and peak flow, operating pressure, required purity, residual-oxygen limit and hours of operation. Explore our nitrogen and oxygen generators before arranging a site assessment.
Wakefield Council identifies advanced manufacturing, construction and logistics among the district’s important sector strengths. These sectors can contain suitable applications, but the sector label does not determine the generator specification. The measured process requirement does.
The existing compressor also matters. It may already provide enough capacity and air quality, or the nitrogen project may require additional compression and treatment. Where that supporting work would be disproportionate to the demand, delivered nitrogen may remain the more practical option.
Select PSA or Membrane Generation
Membrane generation is generally considered for moderate-purity duties, while pressure swing adsorption is considered for higher purity or a tighter residual-oxygen limit.
The final choice still depends on measured process conditions.
Atlas Copco explains that pressure swing adsorption uses alternating vessels filled with carbon molecular sieve. Membrane generation separates gases through differential permeation in hollow fibres. Both technologies require a suitable supply of clean, dry compressed air.
We compare the options against your flow profile, purity requirement, available compressor capacity and operating pattern. Our guide to the benefits of on-site nitrogen generation provides further context on replacing or reducing delivered gas.
What Our Wakefield Service Includes
Our work can include:
- A compressed-air assessment covering available flow, pressure, air quality and spare compressor capacity.
- Generator specification based on the process demand rather than a broad industry assumption.
- Air treatment selection to protect the generator and achieve the agreed inlet-air condition.
- Installation and integration with the compressed-air and nitrogen distribution systems.
- Start-up checks confirming that pressure, flow and purity meet the agreed specification.
- Planned servicing and maintenance based on the equipment and duty cycle.
Our Leeds and Sheffield depots support Wakefield and surrounding industrial areas within our Yorkshire service region. We use genuine Atlas Copco parts and factory-trained engineers. Search Air also became an Employee Ownership Trust in 2024, giving our employees a direct stake in the standard of work delivered.
Maintenance is provided with clear, agreed pricing. Any work outside the agreed plan is identified and quoted separately. Where it is included in your support arrangement, we can provide emergency call-out access. Access does not mean every call-out or repair is included in the plan.
Control the Nitrogen Safety Risk
Nitrogen is colourless and odourless, so a release may not give an obvious warning. The Health and Safety Executive warns that nitrogen can displace oxygen and create an asphyxiation hazard.
Generator location, ventilation, monitoring and other controls must therefore follow the site risk assessment and consider how nitrogen could be released or accumulate. We account for the installation environment when planning the system, but the controls must remain specific to the site and process.
Arrange a Nitrogen Generator Assessment in Wakefield
On-site generation is worth assessing when nitrogen demand is regular, the required flow and purity can be defined, and a suitable compressed-air supply is available. It is less convincing for occasional low-volume use or where substantial compressor upgrades would outweigh the operational benefit.
If the project also involves compressors, dryers or distribution pipework, our air compressor services in Wakefield cover the supporting system.
Contact Search Air to arrange a site assessment. For a useful quotation, provide the application, required flow, purity or residual-oxygen limit, operating pressure, production hours, current supply method and any known peak demand. We will confirm the proposed scope and provide clear, agreed pricing for the installation and ongoing support.
