Installation
Air compressors are reliable and versatile, but their performance depends heavily on how they are installed. A well-designed installation is the foundation of a hard-working and efficient compressed air system.
Using experts who take the time to design a setup that works for you ensures a high-quality system built to perform and last.
What good installation looks like
While the compressor is central to your system, optimal performance relies on the effective operation of the entire system. A bad installation creates an environment that makes your costs higher and breakdowns more likely. A good installation will have key characteristics that support your compressor.

An efficient compressed air system
Effective design minimises the distance compressed air travels and reduces the number of bends, which helps maintain pressure and limits weak points.
Designed around you
Compressed air should support your operations without causing disruption. A good design should enhance efficiency and, importantly, prevent damage by eliminating the need for people to work around it.
Fit for its purpose
A well-placed compressor will benefit from good air intake and space for additional equipment like dryers or gas generators. It will also be designed with the future in mind, so there is scope to upgrade the system if your business needs it.

Why industrial air compressor installation is important
If you do not get your specifications and installation right, you risk problems with your compressed air system.
The most common problem is inefficiency; a poor air network means the compressor has to compensate, increasing your energy costs and reducing its lifespan.
It will also increase costs if you need to expand or adapt your air compressor system to address business growth or change, and your system has no flexibility.
Poor installation leads to higher maintenance costs, increased downtime, and a greater risk of accidents due to inefficient pipework, excessive wear and tear on components, and diminished air quality.
Our design and compressed air installation process
Search Air start every installation by taking the time to understand your business so we can deliver a system that works for you.
During the installation process, we continue building the compressed air network alongside you to ensure it is ideal for your operations. If required, we can use Atlas Copco’s popular AIRnet piping system, a modular system that is effective and easy to reconfigure as your operations change.
Partnership is at the heart of our design ethos. We ensure optimal performance and help you learn about your new compressed air system after installation. If you want to join the hundreds of businesses that already benefit from their partnership with Search Air, just contact us today, and we can start designing your ideal air compressor installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need air compressor professionals for my installation?
You might think installation is straightforward, but it is always best to use professionals. We have been designing and installing compressed air systems since the 1950s and combine decades of experience with the latest best practices and award-winning compressors and equipment from Atlas Copco.
Does a good installation still need servicing?
Regular servicing and maintenance are as necessary as a good installation for your system’s health. However, a good installation will reduce costs by minimising wear and tear and breakdowns.
What is the best pipe material for my Installation?
The answer depends on the environment and application. Most installations are recommended to be carried out using smoothbore aluminium pipework (our Atlas AirNet range) for quick installation and reduced pressure drop.
Installations in aggressive environments – with high or low temperatures or low-level pipework exposed to vehicle movement – may require galvanised steel for added durability. Other installations may benefit from carbon steel, while medical installations typically require copper. Stainless steel is also popular in environments with a high corrosion risk.
You also need to be mindful of any pipework exposed to ambient conditions such as rain, frost, or direct sunlight.
We at Search can specify the best solution for you following a site visit. We’ve been carrying out installations since 1952 and have some of the most experienced specifiers and installers in the country.
